چکیده

Gamma-ray burst time histories often consist of many peaks. These peaks tend to be narrower at higher energy. If gamma-ray bursts are cos-mological, the energy dependence of gamma-ray burst time scales must be understood in order to correct the time scale dependence due to the expansion of the universe. By using the average autocorrelation function and the average pulse width, we show that the narrowing with energy follows, quite well, a power law. The power law index is-0.4. This is the rst quantitative relationship between temporal and spectral structure in gamma-ray bursts. It is unclear what physics causes this relationship. The average au-tocorrelation has a universal shape such that one energy range scales linearly with time into all other energy ranges. This shape is approximately the sum 1 of two exponential.

The Average Temporal and Spectral Evolution of Gamma-ray Bursts

OF GAMMA-RAY BURSTS E. E. Fenimore D436 Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM 87545, USA email: [email protected] Received..........; accepted............ ABSTRACT We have averaged bright BATSE bursts to uncover the average overall temporal and spectral evolution of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We align the temporal structure of each burst by setting its duration to a standard duration, w...

Are there cosmological evolution of Gamma-Ray Bursts?

The variability of gamma-ray burst (GRB) is thought to be correlated with its absolute peak luminosity, and this relation had been used to derive an estimate of the redshifts of GRBs. Recently Amati et al. present the results of spectral and energetic properties of several GRBs with know redshifts. Here we analyse the properties of two group GRBs, one group with known redshift from afterglow ob...

A New Approach to Statistics of Cosmological Gamma-ray Bursts

We use a new method of analysis to determine parameters of cosmological gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), assuming that their distribution follows the star formation history of the universe. Spectral evolution is calculated from an external shock model for Ðreball/blast-wave evolution and used to evaluate the measured peak Ñux, duration, and peak photon energy for a GRB source occurring at a given redsh...

Constraints on the Gamma-ray Burst Luminosity Function from PVO and BATSE Observations

We examine the width of the gamma-ray burst luminosity function through the distribution of GRB peak fluxes as detected by the Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO) and the Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE). The strength of the analysis is greatly enhanced by using a merged catalog of peak fluxes from both instruments with good cross-calibration of their sensitivities. The range of peak fluxe...
